Hello coaches, my name is Ryu and my dream is to be the best I possibly can. I love to improve myself and the others around me because I believe that having a group that grows together will not only help me, but help others to improve themselves. I love learning from experienced individuals and understanding their advice and then applying it to my life and sharing it with others. I am not only referring to swimming when I talk about improving my team and myself. The “team” isn’t always going to be my swim team, sometimes it’s my classmates and friends in school that learn from each other when we don’t understand a subject in class. I do my best to help them with the knowledge I gained from class as well as what I have learned from outside educational sources to combine our understanding and become a better team. Sometimes the team is my community, such as my Church in which I actively participate in by participating in food drives, aiding children and adults with disabilities, or even helping with homeless shelters. But the most important team in my life is my family. My little brother and sister look up to me and ask me for advice when it comes to school or just general life. They probably think I know everything, but I would never be where I am without the things I have learned from my mom and dad, both of which know the toll of sacrifice and meaning of family after leaving their home countries to come here. I still learn from them everyday and everyday I strive to be my best self because of them. Though I still have much to learn, I believe I will be good for your program because of my work ethic that isn’t solely focused on myself, but on aiding my teammates so that as one team, we can all succeed together.
