When I started swimming at age 5, I wasn’t very good. Sometimes, I wouldn’t even finish my race. If I did, I’d be close to last. The next summer of swim, I got better. I finished all my races and even swam in some relays. There was still one thing that I wanted to accomplish: making the A relay. That fall, I decided to join my first year-round club team. I got better from there, swimming all winter and spring until the next summer. That summer, I made the A relay and haven’t stopped swimming since.
In a team, I’m looking for a culture of hard work and respect, helping each other to achieve our goals. That brings me back to my original goal: the relay. Relays are the most exciting part of a meet, whether I’m swimming in it or watching it. During the relay, the team becomes the focus again.
