I have been swimming for 11 years now, and I cannot imagine ever NOT swimming competitively. I enjoy practice. It is a great stress relief and I love the comradery with my friends and coaches. I enjoy seeing how the effort and work that I put in over time translates into improvements in the pool. I have also learned that this lesson applies outside of the pool. The discipline that I have learned allows me to improve in the classroom and other areas of my life.
I have set high goals for myself in and out of the pool. I want to attend a college with high academic standards and earn a degree in a technical field (math, physics, engineering, etc). To this end I have pushed myself to take more math classes than necessary and I have signed up for as many AP and Honors classes as I can. I enjoy pushing my mind to excel in the classroom.
Competition is also something I relish. Whether it is in the pool at practice, at a swim meet, or playing board games with my family, I love the thrill of competing against others. I want to push this to the next level in college and continue to be the best that I can be. Although I enjoy competition, I also enjoy when my teammates succeed. Helping a teammate hit a personal best is a good feeling, knowing that we have pushed and helped each other.
