Personal Statement

Dear Coaches,

I am excited to share with you my collegiate goals and aspirations, as I seek to continue my athletic journey at the next level. As a highly motivated and dedicated athlete, my ultimate goal is to contribute to a winning team, and to do so while pursuing my academic goals. I believe that I would be a great addition to your team for several reasons.

Firstly, I bring a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence to everything I do. Whether it's in the classroom, in the pool, or in my personal life, I am always striving to be the best version of myself. I am confident that this attitude will translate well to your swim team, and help me to make a positive impact on the campus both in and out of the pool.

Secondly, I believe that my athletic skills and experience make me a strong candidate for your team. As a seasoned player in my sport, I have developed a keen understanding of techniques in different strokes, and the physical and mental demands required to compete at a high level. I am always looking for ways to improve and push myself to new heights, and I am eager to continue developing my skills under your guidance and from feedback from swimmers on your roster.

Finally, I am a leader both in and out of the pool, with strong communication and teamwork skills. I am also involved in various extracurricular activities like wakeboarding, fishing, open water swimming and downhill skiing and community service projects, which have helped me to develop important life skills, relationships, and values such as discipline, perseverance, and empathy.

I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to your swim program, swim with and support teammates and continue growing as an athlete and a person on your campus.

As an athlete and a student I live by one quote "Defeat is a state of mind; No one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality". - Bruce Lee

I am very resilient and will work hard to reach my ultimate goals.

Thank you for considering me!

Sincerely,

Benjamin Millar

  • 2023 Barrie Trojan Swim Club (ON) (High Performance)
  • I have been swimming with the Barrie Trojans for 9 years. I started out in the Swim Skills Program when I was about 6 years old for a few years and then I was selected to move up to the competitive program when I was about 9 years old. I quickly moved up the ranks into the top swim group for my age category. I am currently in the highest group for my club "High Performance". My stroke of choice is butterfly (200m), but I am a well-rounded swimmer and have made some huge gains with the freestyle stroke in the past couple of years. In addition, I enjoy relays and am often selected for Fly in the IM relays or lead in free relays. See below for my 16 best times that are current Stats.
