Personal Statement

I would describe myself as a very responsible, considerate, open-minded and athletic person. I am always on top of things when it comes to my academics and I set my priorities for what is most important to me. In the future, I love studying psychology, specifically socio-cultural and cognitive psychology. Coming from Austria and Switzerland, being born in the Czech-Republic and living in Thailand, Japan and the United States, I have had the opportunity to greatly widen my perspective on life and learn a lot about values and social norms in other cultures. Having the privilege of living in all of these places has made me a better person overall as well as given me the ability to easily fit in anywhere I go.

Tennis is something that I have pursued since I was very young. It's my favourite sport and I continue to love playing it. It keeps me fit and has also allowed me to push my limits mentally and physically. Some of my greatest attributes have been learned by playing tennis. Tennis is one of my greatest passions in life. I started playing when I was 6 years old and I've loved it ever since. It's definitely one of the greatest parts of my childhood, not only because it has helped me stay fit and healthy but because it has given me the ability to learn a lot about patience, mental strength and focus.

As I grew older I realised how much of a mind game tennis really is and the ability to stay mentally strong throughout my game is one of the most important aspects of tennis. This has not only helped me on the court but also off the court where being mentally strong and patient are some of the most important traits to have throughout my life only leading to success. Before becoming part of the Varsity tennis team in the US, I was a member of the Varsity Team at my school (SMIS) in Tokyo and as much as tennis is an individual sport, it is also a team sport. I learned a lot about team spirit and cooperation during this time period which has helped me a lot with my success.

The past two years, I have travelled to Serbia to play in a tennis academy where I was able to improve my game to a much larger extent and help younger tennis players become better players. Just like I learned the different aspects of tennis when I was younger, I was able to pass down my knowledge to these younger players, helping them becoming better players and better people at the same time. Once I moved to the US, I continued to learn more about tennis and having a new coach gave me numerous new perspectives on the game and it gave me the ability to learn even more about myself by pushing myself to my limits. Tennis has always set me apart from other people because it gave me the privilege to be part of a great team and having a connection that not everyone can relate to.

I have greatly committed myself to what I love to do and I’m confident that my love for studying and Tennis will continuously grow as I pursue it at a college level, especially when I will be able to do both of them.
