Personal Statement

I am Andy Guymon. I am 6’1”, 140 pounds.  I was team captain for my high school team last year and I am this year as well. Last year I went undefeated at number one singles for my highschool team with a 21-0 record. This earned me a number three ranking throughout South Dakota. Living in South Dakota it is a large commitment to play in the northern section as it is about a 10 hour drive to the nearest tournaments; however, I have been able to obtain a number 27 ranking in my section. I worked my tail off playing an average of 20 hours a week for the past four years and maintaining an above 4.00 GPA. I know how much dedication and hard work it takes to compete at a high level as I have been that dedicated the past 4 years.  I began a weight lifting and conditioning program specifically for tennis 3 years ago and have consistently attended it 3 days a week. Being a team captain for multiple years, I have gained valuable leadership skills such as motivated myself and teammates in practice and in matches. I am a very optimistic person on and off the court.  I enjoy working with 3 coaches who all played for division 1 schools. Off the tennis court I help lead my local youth group and enjoyed volunteering at the humane society.  I enjoyed helping out the community but have a strong desire to focus solely on tennis and education in college.  In my college search, I am looking for a tennis program and school that fits me no matter where it is located.  I assure you that I will be an asset to your tennis program, improving your school on and off the court.
