Personal Statement

I have played many sports, succeeded in many activities, and failed even more. I am far from being perfect, but As a runner I pride myself on going the distance both on the track and off. Recently, during the 2022 Mt. SAC Relays my determination was put to the test. I ran the 4x100 meter relay, the 1600 meter SMR, and the 4x200 meter relay. During the 1600-meter SMR, I ended up cramping on both of my calves. I was able to finish my run, but afterward, I had to deal with my calves. However, I still had to run the 4x200 meter relay. Most people wouldn't have run the relay, but my team didn't have an alternate.  My team was counting on me to and without me, my teammates would not have run that race. Two of them traveled far to Mt. SAC to run this one race, and if I didn't run, their travels would have been useless. Although I was in pain and very sore, I took 20 minutes to recover. I had to recover in every way possible and put myself back out there on the track. I proceeded to run a great 200 meters which allowed my team to run an event at Mt. Sac, one of the biggest meets for high schoolers in California. Even though rest may have been the responsible decision for my body, I was not going to let down my team. A major part of my character is that I am one who everyone can depend on.  I am known for taking ownership of all activities that I participate in.  I make sure to do everything in my power to lead and help others.

I am dependable in team situations, and everyone can count on me to do what it takes to win. My father describes me as a "fighter."  Someone who will conquer any hurdle ahead, and do everything in my power to win. For example, I showed my fighting spirit during  the 2022 SoCAL FroshSoph Championships.  At the competition during the 4x100 relay, I was given the baton in second place. As the anchor, I had to catch the person in front of me, who was around 10-20 meters ahead of me. I used all my strength to catch him, and at the 90-meter mark I surpassed him and won the race for my team. Later, during the 100-meter dash, I knew I was up against at least two kids who had faster times than me. However, I didn't let that intimidate me. My refusal to give up resulted in an epic victory for my team. I fought for my two golds that day, along with many past competitions.

I have walked into many championship meets fearlessly and defied many odds stacked against me. This happened during my freshman year in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash during the LA City Championships. When I was a freshman, I was expected to finish last of the pack, yet I was able to finish in fifth and sixth place. I fought for where I am today and worked for everything I have earned. My fighting spirit is not only limited to athletics.  I am a dedicated student that perseveres in academics. Even if I don't understand a concept, I will use logic and every brain cell to ensure that I make my way to the right answer.  Sometimes there are setbacks, but I always try my best and fight to resolve any problems I encounter. It doesn't always work, but I know I always try, and always fight to get the right answer or get to the end. That is the type of person I am. I may not be perfect, but the world doesn't need perfection. The world needs someone willing to continue to fight for their friends, family, and teammates. Someone who will do everything in their power to prove they belong. The world needs a "fighter," and I am a "fighter”.
