I grew up in inner-city Hartford, but was fortunate to attend a more affluent public school in the suburbs through the Capitol Region Education Council program. Since five years old, by myself, I walked 15 minutes from my apartment to the bus stop and then rode a bus to the suburbs.
Having the opportunity to attend school in the suburbs allowed me to develop special skills. At first, it was not easy being in a school where everyone looked different than me, but I learned how to close the cultural adversity gap and was able to make friends. My mother and grandmother loved me but could not understand or help. I learned at an early age how to be independent and persevere.
My main goal in life is to find a school out there that is willing to give me a chance I am a great athlete, yes academically I may not seem that way to colleges but if given the opportunity and help needed I would not let anyone down and I would do what is needed to be done no matter what sacrifices I’d need to make.
