Zachary Smercina '14 Recruiting Profile

Last year in 2013 (my junior year ) was my first year ever participating in Track & Field in high school. I would love to continue pursuing Track & Field at the collegiate level and I would love to continue to develop and get even better with the help of a college coaching staff and their program. My main race is the 300 meter hurdles. One advantage I have is that I am a little smaller than most (being somewhere between 5'9 and 5'10) and I plan to use my height as an advantage of winning most of my races because my size allows me to be quicker between each hurdle. I am also very excited to see how far I can go and to reach my fullest potential, having the opportunity to be involved in such a sport as track and field is something that I love doing and that I am very passionate about. I plan to work extremely hard this season (the 2014 season) and also in the offseason to give myself the best chance of having success. I am an extremely hard-working, goal-driven young man with a passion to be the best I can be. I have participated in basketball for 4 years and football for 2 years in high school so I know what it is like to work as a team and to do what is best for the team. I am a very good teammate and I am very coachable. My junior and senior years have been very busy for me. I have been involved in 3 different sports all year (football, basketball, and track & field). During this time I have been able to carry a 3.0 GPA and have been on the honor roll nearly every semester. I think I am not only a good athlete but I am also strong academically. I know that I could be a good candidate for many college teams and I have a work ethic that will exceed all expectations.
