When my seventh grade track coach urged me to try the hurdles, I'll admit I was scared. I thought I was too short, but my competitive nature took over. I ended that season with a first place finish in the 100m hurdles and a conference record. Each subsequent year as the hurdles got higher and the competition got faster, my form and times improved. My sophomore year I got a new hurdle coach who is a collegiate level hurdler himself. He helped me fine tune my form, and my speed drastically increased. Late in my sophomore season, I suffered a disappointing injury that kept me from qualifying for the state meet. This made me more determined than ever to qualify for state the next year where I not only achieved my goal of running at state, but I finished 5th with the first place time being only 0.22 seconds faster.
I have belonged to many different sports teams and other programs over the years where I've seen great strength in teamwork. I'm looking for a track program with outstanding coaches and teammates who will help me refine my hurdling skills as well as support me through my education. I am a bright student and desire a strong academic program as well. I believe I will be a valuable addition to your team because I will always work to better myself and those around me.
