Personal Statement

Before you begin to read below I would like you to keep these key things in mind...I have never had any formal training in any track and field event and I am a natural 3 stepper when it comes to hurdles.

It was just last year when I was a junior in High School that I made the decision to go out for the track team. Little did I know that it would soon become the greatest decision of my life. I pushed myself further then I ever thought I would and left everything on the track every time I came to practice. I didn’t know much about the sport but I did know that I wanted to be the best I could be at it and that nothing could stop me. Within that first spring season I made a name for myself in the area and became Second Team Big North Conference, received Honorable Mention All-County, placed 4th out of 30 in sectionals, and went on to Groups to compete in High Jump. Once the season ended I couldn’t wait for the indoor season to start. I gladly joined the track team once again. I had put the work in in the off season and now it was time to put myself to the test. As the season began I started off strong taking 1st in several events such as high jump and hurdles. I continued to stay on top and when it was time for the big meets I was ready. I ended the indoor season being 1st Team Big North Conference, 1st Team All-Around Passaic County, 1st Team All-League in the 55 meter Hurdles and the Long Jump. I took 3rd in the League for High Jump as well. I went on to take 3rd in the County for Hurdles and Long Jump and 5th in the County for High Jump. I placed 6th in Sectionals for the Hurdles and 3rd for High Jump without spikes. I advanced to Groups for both events and reached a new personal best for Hurdles with a time of 8.26 seconds (Digital Time). This time would have placed me 2nd in the Section instead of 6th. Now this may not be the most impressive thing that you have read or are going to read but if I can leave you with one thing it would be this. Please keep in mind that I have had no formal training for track and am only performing off of raw talent at the moment. Track is my new found passion and I wish to continue this passion in college and become the best I can with professional training, hard work, and the dedication and drive it takes to be the best. My accomplishments this past year underscore my desire to achieve my goals in the future and I plan to continue this same level of commitment and passion to excel when I enter college.
