Andrew Lankau Boyar '22 Recruiting Profile

Coming from a small, competitive school with no field coach, I am a self-taught thrower and eager for an experienced coach to recognize my drive to improve, willingness to be coached, and potential to be my best. I would love the opportunity to develop my passion for throwing shot and to gain the technical skills and strength to excel on the field.

My goals include learning discus and/or hammer and see what develops from there. My cousin was an All-State Hammer thrower in New York State, who went on to the Naval Academy, so strength and a passion for throwing comes naturally. I believe I am in a perfect spot to be coached, having not yet developed bad habits in throwing that I hear about. I want to go as far as possible with my throwing, and am willing to work to make it happen.

I am a team player and believe that while we strive individually in track and field, our goal is to work hard to benefit the team.  I have a proven record of teamwork and leadership, as I took on teaching shot to our girls field team, which consisted of freshmen, first-time throwers, and resulted in one girl going to the NC State Championship. I have started on our Varsity football team for all 3 years that I am at Bishop McGuinness, becoming an exemplary leader, and team player on the football field. In addition, I achieved All-State Finals in Outdoor Shotput as a Junior, and now going to State Finals in Indoor Shot, as well as All-Conference in Football.

I work hard to improve both on and off the field and challenged myself to take Honors classes this year in Physics and Pre-Calculus, as well as Religion. I am totally committed to working hard to overcome obstacles and challenges. Let’s talk and see what I can bring to your team.
