Personal Statement
I am a 6’5” track athlete that specializes in the hurdles and 400M dash. I will be graduating in 2013 from Pickerington North High School, Pickerington, Ohio. I have spent my freshman, sophomore and junior year on the Varsity Track Team. My recent accomplishments include being named team MVP for the 2011 and 2012 track season and team captain. I am the Ohio Capital Conference Champion in the 110HH and 300IM. I have four years of USATF Junior Olympic competition experience. In 2011 I was a national finalist in the 110HH (7th), 400M (6th), 4x400 (7th), and I am the USATF Junior Olympic National Champion in the 400M hurdles for 2011 and 2012.
My current season is going well. I am Team Captain this year and the team won our conference, district and regional meets, and was state runner up. I placed in the 300IM's (2nd), 4x200 (2nd), 4x400 (5th), and 110HH (6th) at the Ohio Track and Field State meet. My personal best times include 14.20 in the 110HH, 37.31 in the 300IM, 48.45 in the 400 meters, and 51.59 in the 400m hurdles. I am ranked 2nd in the Nation in the 400IM.
My GPA is 2.787 and I passed all parts of the Ohio Graduation Test my sophomore year. I am currently taking Honors and AP courses, and my composite ACT score is 78. I scored a 20 on the ACT Test, and I am awaiting my grades for the end of my Junior year.
I am interested in attending an institution that has a strong academic reputation and a competitive track program. Ideally, my athletic environment would be one where I could make an immediate impact on the team. I believe I could perform at the DI level and I am most interested in pursuing institutions in the South, Midwest and East Coast. While geographical location is important the driving force of my decision would be scholarship opportunities.
