My name is Jared Ruest and I am a grade 11 student at Georgian Bay Secondary School in Meaford, Ontario, Canada. I am very fortunate with the cross country and track seasons I have had throughout high school so far. I have had many jumps and I have had developed many new skills and strengths from grade 9 to 11. However, with victory comes defeat. I have learned that I am not going to have an amazing race every time. I learned to use that emotion to fuel my self in training and motivate myself for the next race.
After my grade nine year I had a big leap in my training and racing. In grade nine at the OFSAA Cross Country Championships I placed 5th overall. Then, in grade 10, I was able to place 2nd in the junior boys OFSAA race. In grade 9 track I placed 7th at the OFSAA Track and Field Championships in the 3000m with a time of 9:17. In grade 10 I was able to drop my time by 30 seconds and place 5th at the OFSAA Track and Field Championships in the 3000m with a time of 8:47. This past cross country season went off with a great start. However, seasonal allergies hit and it affected my breathing. I placed 51st in the senior boys OFSAA cross country race and 13th in the youth Athletic Ontario's cross country race. Despite not having the greatest cross country season, it has motivated, determined, and helped me look more forward to this years track season.
An aspiration of mine is to be able to go to a school that focuses equally on academics as it does athletics. I would love to go to a school where the coach is able to focus one on one with each of his/her athletes. I would also love to be a part of a team where we are all working our hardest to be the best runners we can be. My favorite schools are University of Michigan, Oregon and Louisville. I have always dreamed of being one of the very few international athletes given a chance to run in the NCAA.
I put the exact effort into my school work as I do into my running. I am always committed and when I start something I finish it. During workouts I always try to dig deep and give more than what I think I can. I love challenges and being pushed to my limits. I would love to be given a chance to run in the NCAA and race against the best runners in the nation.
