Hello,
My name is Jorge Cantu, and I have been running in Cross Country and Track and Field for over 5 years. My interest in running began in elementary school when I signed up for a running club in 5th grade, and it took off in my 7th grade year of middle school where I got to compete against other schools in Track and Field, as well as Cross Country in 8th grade. During my early experiences in Cross Country and Track and Field, I valued the competition and experiences from not only competing against others, but also being a part of a team. Those unforgettable experiences and emotions helped me continue my passion for running in high school.
In the beginning of my high school journey, I was fortunate to be a founder of Bridgeland High School, which at the time was its first year open with only freshmen and sophomores. Being a student at a newly created program forced me to not only grow up quicker and take responsibility of my actions, but also to develop leadership and communication skills. I was on the varsity Cross Country team my first year of high school, and stayed on varsity since. I also made the varsity Track and Field Team my sophomore year of high school. For this 2020-2021 year, I have been chosen by my Cross Country coach to be one of four team captains for our program, which will allow me to further strengthen my leadership skills as well as gain valuable experience that will carry on to college, and beyond.
My reason for choosing to continue running in college is due to my passion of Cross Country and Track and Field. Every race I run provides me with a sense of excitement and accomplishment that I can't imagine giving up. I have gained invaluable lessons and experiences just from running Cross Country and Track and Field, and I want to continue to push myself and prove what I am fully capable of in college. I am a hard working individual who understands the time, effort, and commitment necessary to be successful. I constantly maintain a positive attitude and always try to provide my teammates with words of encouragement, especially when times get tough. Lastly, I desire to be a part of a program that will not only help me succeed, but will also provide me with honest feedback and a team that looks out for each other.
