Throughout my life, people have said to me that I was “born this way.” This statement is true in the aspect of being big (since Day 1); for I’m athletic, driven, kind, and smart. I predominantly have played competitive basketball my entire childhood; however, upon entering something so simple – middle school – I found out that I truly was “born this way,” a multi-sport athlete. The coaches caught on quick that I was extremely coachable as they attempted to teach me how to triple jump, long jump, and high jump. I caught on fast and before I knew it, I set records in my middle school in 7th and 8th grade.
High school coaches worked it out for me to come over and participate in workouts with them during the last period of my school day, and my track career has just taken off from there. Participating in five events at each meet is what I do and enjoy.
Before COVID, I high jumped my personal best of 6’6” on March 6, 2020, and I was just getting started in the season.
Being fast is the only way I know and me being the anchor in relays, where teams earn more points, has been a necessity. My demeanor and desire to compete has turned out to be a great investment for track because I feel like I’m competing against myself. I want to beat and set a new personal record at each event. I love the challenge of getting in the zone and making this my own; and yet, it’s for a worthy cause of making my school look good. I’ve been told from all my coaches and athletic peers that I’m the Engine, the Motor, on the team. I bring great energy!
As far as academics go, I currently have a 3.8 GPA because I choose to be focused and successful in school as well. Giving 100% is the way I succeed in my AP courses. I am dedicated, I listen, I’m respectful, I’m dependable, I give full effort, and I’m successful all because I choose to be…and maybe because I was “born this way.”
