- I have been successful at competing and racing. I did not get here by winging it. Running, like studies, requires insight, thought, and a plan for success. To capitalize on that, I rely on two personal, fundamental objectives: Goals and Communication. Neither are effective without the other. I set near, mid, and far goals and communicate these goals to my coaches, teammates, and support team (parents, trainer, physician). No matter the level of the competition, I express my objectives in order to get the right level of counsel, training, and support. This cyclical combination gives my training meaningful results. I learn better with trust and direction. I believe that a good athlete-coach relationship starts with communication, which in turn grows trust. I adapt well to and thrive from regimented and disciplined conditioning, giving me direction and standards. Understanding myself allows me to contribute to my team, thus allowing me to obtain my goals. - Joey Langston, '19
