Personal Statement
My collegiate goals are to play the highest level of volleyball I can while getting a great education that will prepare me for my career. I am a junior at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Canada, California. Flintridge Prep is one of the top ranked private high schools nationally (#16) and in California (#5) according to the Niche ratings.
I was the starting setter on the varsity volleyball team earning First Team All-League honors as a freshman and received the Rookie of the Year award at Flintridge. We were undefeated in league and made it to the semi-finals of the CIF-Southern Sectionals. I ended the season with 989 assists averaging 11.4 assists per set (amongst the highest in the state (Max Preps). It was a great experience for me to deal with the pressure of running the offense (made up of upper classmen) and earning their respect and support.
As a junior at Flintridge Preparatory School I am captain of the men's volleyball team for the second year. We have won our league and look forward to playing in CIF 2021.
I am also the primary setter on my club team, San Gabriel Elite - 18 Elite. This is a grade level higher for me. I have been playing with SG Elite since I was ten years old and played on the club’s highest 14U team through 7th grade. For the past four years, my team has earned bids to the BJNC in the Open Division. Last year the BJNC was cancelled due to COVID but our team was consistently ranked top ten in SCVA and we ended the season with a 10th place finish at nationals.
Outside of volleyball, I have involvement in student government, other sports, clubs at school and youth service groups. I was ASB President for my 8th and 5th grade classes. As a 9th grader at Flintridge, I was the only freshman to make the varsity basketball team and consistently saw playing time. I was also one of a few freshmen to be selected to the Athletic Counsel on Leadership. I manage the girls varsity volleyball team and belonged to the Asian Student Union. I am involved with a group called Kizuna that sponsors classes for seniors to teach them to use technology.
In the classroom, I am very good student. I ended the semester with a 3.9 GPA. I give my full attention and am not afraid to ask questions. I am researching fields of study I may want to pursue in college.
I am diligent and passionate at whatever I do. The dedication I have on the court, at school and volunteering makes a strong candidate to successfully play at the collegiate level. I consider myself very fortunate to be attending such an outstanding school, being a part of super special and talented volleyball teams and having great mentoring and supportive coaches. I am hoping that I can find a college that can offer all these things and more.
