Michael Mapes '26 Recruiting Profile

Hi, my name is Michael and I live in Southern California.  I started playing volleyball at a nearby club when I was 13 years old.  I signed up for the volleyball clinics and had a lot of fun at the practices. So, I thought it would be fun to try out for the club team there. The 2022/2023 volleyball season was my first club team experience.  The positions I played were mainly Middle Block and sometimes OPPO.

Although challenging at first, I enjoy hitting, blocking, and playing as a team.  I am still learning and have encountered many errors, but I continue to strive to get better.  I learn best from my mistakes by thinking them through and asking my Coach for help.  I respect my coach’s opinion because they are more experienced than me and are trying to help me improve at understanding and playing volleyball.  I also appreciate how volleyball has allowed me to travel to different cities, meet other people, and have new experiences.  I look forward to learning more about volleyball and continuing to play.
