I started playing volleyball in 6th grade. I joined a neighboring school’s CYO volleyball team and was able to hone and develop my fundamental skills. I wanted to play at a higher level and joined a club team for every consecutive year since. I am a versatile player who has played almost every position as I grew in height. Starting with libero, becoming an outside hitter, and now playing both middle blocker and opposite hitter. One comment you can always hear my teammates, coaches, or spectators saying is, “how can Brenton jump and float so high?” I am hungry for coach feedback to improve any aspect of my play. Whenever you see me at a tournament or practice, on the court, or the sidelines, you can always catch me fully invested in the team and working the hardest.
During the club season, I play for the Absolute Volleyball Club. This year, I am on the 18 Silver team. My high school previously did not have a boys' volleyball team due to the lack of interest. Due to my strong passion for the sport, I wanted to create change and make a team. To do this, during lunches I have recruited lower-classmen and organized open gyms. With constant tenacity and communications with the school’s athletics director, this academic year, we will have the first boys' volleyball team in my school’s history.
Off the court and in the classroom, I study hard and maintain a high GPA while always challenging myself with the most rigorous course loads. In school, I am also a Lead Tutor, Founder, and President of the Business and Finance Club, and I am on the Policy Task Force. Outside the classroom, I work a part-time job as an Inventory Manager, am a Life Scout with Eagle Scout anticipated in Spring 2024, and love analyzing company stock charts.
I want a college where I can play volleyball at the highest level and continue challenging myself in the classroom. Volleyball has been an essential aspect of my life as it taught me teamwork, perseverance, and communication. These skills have helped direct and shape my everyday life. Volleyball has grown from a sport I enjoy to a passion. After competing in junior national tournaments and traveling all over the country, I can see myself continuing this at a higher level. I fully realize that unlike a conventional recruit, I have not attended volleyball clinics, nor have I competed on a high school team. However, I possess the drive to succeed at a collegiate level, where I will work with coaches to continually grow as a player and serve the team and represent the university.
