Personal Statement
I am Tucker Shearn, a 2023 libero/setter from Colorado, with extensive experience playing for the top club team in my age group. I will graduate in 2023, but am young for my grade, so I can be a part of your 2023 or 2024 recruiting class. I’m always learning, exploring, adjusting, and finding subtle, new skills to master. Whether it is perfecting the timing and placement of a set with each teammate, reading and exploiting defenses, or pegging the back corner on my topspin serve, I can’t wait to play - I love the competition!
I attend a rigorous high school while also managing high school and club volleyball. I am also committed to serving my community: I raised money for suicide prevention in teens after losing a teammate four years ago, and since the COVID, my sister and I have made over 3,000 lunches for the homeless in Denver, a project which I expect to continue. Athletically, my teammates and coaches would tell you that my speed, agility, hops, and volleyball IQ set me apart on the court.
My life’s mission is to improve the health of my community, ideally as a physician. I see college as an opportunity to excel in the classroom and on the court, and for me to continue to develop the relationships, knowledge, and skills I will need to make the world better. I will make a great addition to your volleyball team because I am a coachable, team player who puts in the work in the gym and in the classroom. I am committed to being the guy who makes a team better both on and off the court.
