Personal Statement

My name is Cashus Muse and I live in Montauk, New York.  Under my awesome Coach, Josh Brussell, I have really come to love the game of Volleyball and intend on playing it throughout College and maybe even beyond! While understanding the anticipation and attack of being a hitter was exhilarating, truly mastering the block of high-end players was also a thrill this year. My agility and reflex mixed with strength and size are what I feel might set me apart. I am quick on my feet and also a drummer, so my timing is legit. I have come to learn the core anticipation and read my fellow opponent like a chess game.

As I mentioned, my outside interests off the court are varied. As a studied musician, I have had the honor of sitting as the lead drummer to a 20-piece Jazzband for my High School for three years now. The band also enforces a team mentality while allowing the freedom to express oneself.

My academic strengths are in writing, (AP Lit) and Environmental Science (Methods and Research). This April (2023) I will be presenting my research on a plant-based aquifer to purify polluted water. This has been a year-long college-level and credited project and it was inspired by seeing the tourist runoff polluting the surrounding Ocean at Ditch Plains and beyond.

In addition to Volleyball, I have played two years of Varsity Basketball and One year of Varsity Swim as a Freshman when there was no other sports in 2020 due to Covid. I wanted to keep my mind and body active so I just tried out for a swim and made Varsity in my first year. East Hampton, NY is an Ocean Town so that is quite an honor. I held a freestyle record in my first year.

I have been known to throw down a mean Halloween costume and stoke up team spirit. Let's go!
