My name is Jack and I live in Columbus, Ohio. I am currently in my junior year at Olentangy Liberty High School, and my ultimate goal is to play college volleyball and earn a degree in Law Enforcement/Forensics/Business so hopefully one day I can work for the FBI or DEA. I spent the majority of my childhood and pre-teen years playing competitive soccer. Even from a very early age, I was drawn to the goalkeeping position, and although I spent some time on the field, I always felt more at home in the goal. I was the starting goalkeeper for a high level club team for 6 years, and we were even able to experience a state cup win in 2019. My coaches always told me my strengths as a keeper included my jumping ability, quickness, and overall agility.
As much as I have liked playing soccer, nothing has compared to the enjoyment I get than when I am playing volleyball. I started playing on a club team at the age of 11 (and actually started as a libero on a 14U Team). However, once I hit my growth spurt, I experienced the front row and never turned back. I originally played outside and opposite, but then COVID happened. Most people think I am crazy when I say that COVID was the best thing that happened to me, but it is true. It was right before our 2nd tournament in the 15U Open Division when our middle hitter tested positive for COVID and was unable to travel/play. I will never forget that one practice, when our coach lined everyone up and said ”Let’s see who can run a middle approach and hit the ball.” It was my first time ever attempting to hit a “1” ball, but it came so natural to me that I ended up not only filling in as middle for that tournament, but played middle the entire season, including Nationals in Kansas City.
