The highlight moment of my three years of playing water polo was my freshman year during the first practice. I had played a month of polo for the Diablo alliance club when I was 8 and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I do now. Being welcomed in by a great group of people that I grew up around really changed my perspective of the sport. Besides this, my personal greatest accomplishment in this game was making it to NCS two years in a row. It was our first time making NCS at my school for the sport and being a part of the first team to make it gave me a reason to not quit the sport. I play most every position, even goalie, but I am the most comfortable playing point. I am flexible with my position and if you ask me to move to a different place, I wouldn’t argue, and I would play my heart out at that position. My greatest strengths are being able to run the offense and defense. In many games, you can hear me yell “switch” or “set a pick” in order to run our defense and offense.
Besides this, winning isn’t my primary goal in the game of water polo. Yes, winning a game is a great feeling, but i care more about the relationships made and the knowledge learned from the game. It is very easy to talk to someone mid game and to carry on a simple conversation. Learning during the game is easy as well. It’s hard to sit still, but by watching someone work magic with the ball, you can point out how they do it and later practice in.
I know that grades come first in every sport, and because of this understanding, I feel that I am a good fit for most schools. I understand the game of water polo and I am a good swimmer, I have an understanding that grades are most important, and I don’t desire winning as mush as I do knowledge.
