Hello, my name is Carter Smith and I live in Southlake, Texas. I am a 5'11" utility player that has been playing water polo for almost 5 years. I play year-round for Thunder Water Polo's national team and in the fall for my high school Southlake Carroll. I was a member of the Southwest Zone team for ODP my freshman year. I am truly a utility player who is able to play strongly at every position. I am very coachable and I strive to become the best player and teammate that I can be.
My goal is to play college water polo at a high level while also getting a very strong education. I hope to be able to further develop my skills at the highest level. I consistently work hard in and out of the pool, including in the classroom. While leading both my club and high school teams to greatly successful seasons, I have managed to maintain a high GPA with a rigorous workload including 7 AP and 8 advanced/honors classes. Maintaining a high A average through all of my arduous classes helps to prove my strong work ethic and my ability to spend time wisely. My intelligence helps me and my teams greatly with my decision making and water polo IQ.
Outside of water polo, I have completed 86 community service hours as of my first semester junior year. I believe that it is important to engage in extracurriculars that help me develop as a person. I spend a lot of time volunteering through the Young Men’s Service League (YMSL), where I am most passionate about the Special Olympics. Working with these incredible kids is a privilege and a great reminder of the things that are most important in life. I also hold a part-time job, where I have gained valuable work experience as a Red Cross certified lifeguard at the Carroll ISD Aquatic Center.
