Personal Statement
I have practically grown up on the softball fields because I have a sister who is 6 years older and has played club ball since I can remember. (Now she plays in college.) As a very young child, I remember always watching her games and could not wait to play. As I grew older, my love for the game grew stronger. I knew that I wanted to play softball. My first time playing rec ball at the age of 7, I was asked to play on a 10u club team. I have not turned back since that time. I remember when I was 8 years old, my sister's 14u coach put me on the roster for Nationals. I can remember the excitement of being in the batter's box against girls 6 years older than me. I remember on my 12u team pitching the state championship game for USSSA. We were tied and playing extra innings. My coach called a timeout as the extra innings went on. He wasn't sure if I was tired and was thinking about a pitching change. When he came to the circle, I told my coach "I got this" and shut out the game with 3 strikeouts. I love to compete and never give up!
The game of softball has taught me so many skills. I have learned that the only way to get better and compete with the best is I have to practice. I am always putting in the side work and learning how to improve my skills. Also, softball has taught me to have good character. As an athlete, whether I am having a good game or bad game I am always respectful to my opponents. My coaches always tell me I am team leader because I lead by example. Softball is such an amazing sport and I am so thankful that I am able to play. When I step out on the field I always compete at my highest ability. Each game I have a goal to out play the opponent in my position. I am willing to help out my team in any way. I am ready to help, whether it is putting down a bunt, becoming a pinch runner, pitching, playing outfield, slapping, or cheering on my team.
Not only on the field am I striving to become a better softball player, but also I am working hard in the classroom. I am a student-athlete. Grades are very important to me because I want to become the best person I can. I have maintained a 4.0 throughout all years in grade school. I am excited to continue high academics in high school. I know as an athlete with a busy schedule that I have to stay on top of my studies. If I need help I always look to get extra tutoring or stay after class to get help so I can succeed.
Everyday is a new day, a day for me to advance my skills and be better than I was yesterday.
