My name is Tanaya Barrett, I am a 2024 graduate. I play for Warrior Academy 16U Jimenez, I am a power hitter and outfielder. I attend Dublin High School with a GPA of 3.29. I have had a dream of playing college softball since the age of 7 and I’ve been working everyday to make that dream a reality. It’s taken a ton of sacrifices. I am so grateful for my family who provides me with the opportunity to play, train and compete at a high level in a sport I love. Even a pandemic couldn’t stop me! I was willing to train and play in a mask. I know that I missed out on “typical” teenager activities because of practice, private lessons or a game. I can’t say the road has always been easy and I know that there is always a need for improvement. I still have a lot to learn. As I watch the college athletes play, I can only wish and work towards sharing a field with players I have looked up to for so long. I remember one of the first camps I was invited to attend, I was literally shaking when I walked past the coach. The experience was life changing. It was then I realized the hard work is worth it. It takes this type of dedication to compete with the best and share the same passion for the game of softball. This game has given me the opportunity to expand my friend group, travel around the country and learn from some of the best coaches. Coaches that have pushed me to overcome mental blocks and focus on what needs to get done. They have instilled in me a passion to be a leader on and off the field. They have helped me to mature and develop as a person and an athlete. Lastly, softball has helped me learn about what it takes to accomplish my goal of playing at a collegiate level. I know it will not be easy, but I am willing to work hard the entire journey.
