Hello, my name is Katelyn West. I've been playing softball since I was around 10 years old. I never had the money to play in travel softball teams that my friends were/are in, but I tried pushing myself hard when the school's softball season came around. During the off season, I stay in shape by eating right and exercising when I can. I noticed I wasn't in too good of shape during freshman year of softball. I then began to loose wait and push myself to become that much faster and more agile. And I worked. When ever I am not playing in my main position of center field, I am the designated runner. My base running skills are one of my best qualities, my coaches, teammate, and even the parents of my teammates are always commenting and congratulating me. Although my at bats was absolutely horrible this year (2019), I made up for it in the field. The cause of my at bats was due to a hard loss and not having my head in the game. It might not be right to base it off of this, but I truly believe this was the reason. I was not myself. Towards the end of the season was when my head began to focus and that was went I began soaring the ball. When in the field, I track the ball as best as I can. I stand out the most over my team when it comes to who has the dirtiest uniform. I'm the type of outfielder who makes the dives, runs into the fences, and slides no matter what. I put my all into trying to get that ball. When the ball doesn't come to me, I'm always backing up. I'm known as Katie West to all my teammates, coaches, and family members of the team. Once when I was put back into center field, a few of the fathers of the players were talking about how grateful they were when I was put out. We were getting beaten, worst then we have ever been, and one of the dads said, "Oh good he put Katie West back out." Another commented, "Oh phew! Hopefully we can hold them now." I am not a player who likes to toot their own horn but that made me feel good inside and push myself even further. Although this year was not my best, I plan to improve myself for next season and become the strong and more focused player that I know I can be.
