Personal Statement
Softball has been a priority in my life ever since I was a very young girl, and continuing my career post-high school is very important to me. Softball is more than just a sport to me, it's a lifestyle. I spend a large chunk of my time either in the cages or on the field and I wouldn't trade it for anything. This sport has built me into the person I am today. It has taught me so many skills that I can use on the diamond, and off of it. I've learned how to overcome adversity, be a inspiring teammate and leader, and how to stay humble in all situations. Without softball I would not be the person I am today and I believe that playing at a higher level would give me even more qualities that I can carry for the rest of my life.
My softball game is very unique. I'm a left-handed second baseman/outfielder and a slap hitter. I have around a 2.7/2.8 home to first time, which is useful for my batting style. When I'm up to bat, I always make sure to know where every defender is. I use the position of the fielders to place the ball in a spot where I know I can get a base hit. Over the years I've developed the skills to drag bunt down either baseline, soft slap when the short stop is playing back, or slap it over the 3rd baseman's head if she's creeping up. Using this style has resulted in a OBP of over .500 in my past 4 seasons. As for defense, yes I am a left-handed second baseman. This sometimes turns away coaches, but I'm very confident playing the middle infield and I have adapted to play just as well as a right-hander would. I've about perfected my turn on a double play and I have a very large range which allows me to stop many of the balls that come my way.
As for academics, they are my number one priority. I'm very set on attending a highly academic school and pursuing a career with a biology major. Right now, I hold a 4.17 GPA. I take many AP classes at my school to challenge myself and to become a better student. I also participate in extracurriculars and sports in school. I'm Vice President of our Student Council and Rotary Interact club. I'm also involved in our Youth in Government program and am a member on our math team. Lastly, I have been on the varsity swim team for 3 years, varsity basketball for 2, and varsity softball for 3.
My choices for college right now are very diverse, and I'm open to almost any region/size/division. I would like to go to a very academic school that offers majors in the biology field. I would love to play on a softball team with a strong bond. Good attitudes are very important to me and I love to be on a team that I can call my family. My preferred coaching style is someone that plays the short ball/speed game. I would like a coach that has grit and is not afraid to take some risks. I would also like to have a coach that is inspiring and gives me reason to love the sport even more than I already do. All in all, I'm open to many schools, and I'm just looking for a school that I can feel comfortable and excel in softball and academics at.
