My appreciation for life was really developed due to the fact I was bullied in middle school and how I chose to respond to that criticism. I was slightly overweight and couldn’t run as fast as the other kids. I made the decision pretty quickly, that although it hurt my feelings, to respond outwardly like it didn’t hurt. By doing that and smiling and laughing it off, then they realized that I am pretty cool no matter what I look like but my heart is what matters. I realized earlier on that life wasn’t about winning or losing but appreciating what I have to give. That time helped me grow as a person and lead me to re-focus my own efforts on becoming a solid catcher and team leader so that I can play at the college level. But most importantly, to become a solid person so that I can give back to others and not just focus on myself.
In my high school career, I have learned the value of teamwork, commitment, and sacrifice. My high school team has had many ups and downs but I feel that my leadership on the team has grown because of those opportunities. I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, work-ethic, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on your program. I know that I have what it takes to be a leader on your team!
