My name is Isabel Cruz but everyone calls me “Izzy”. I am a student at Albertus Magnus High School in Rockland County, N.Y. I wake up every morning and travel from Orange County to my school. The long commute does not bother me because I wanted to attend a college preparatory high school. I choose honors homework and college prep courses in freshman year over staying with what was comfortable and familiar. I am not afraid of hard work and appreciate any opportunity that can make me better. I have learned to value not only physical strength but also mental toughness. I have been playing softball since the 5th grade and since that time I have been putting in the work to become a better player. Many people want to hit a home run and win a trophy but not everyone understands that it is the practice you put in when no one is looking that can guarantee you success. Along with softball, I also play tennis, trumpet, and am a member of the Art Club. I have been selected for first chair in the Hudson Valley Concert Band and was the soloist at Music In The Park where my school won 1st place. My art work has been displayed not only in our Board of Education offices but also in the arrival hall at Stewart International Airport.
In my college years I will have as a goal to continue to develop myself in all the areas as a student athlete. I want to pursue a degree in Engineering. I know that this is a very challenging major. I will strive to be organized and proactive in my studies to assure success. On the field, I want to be a player that shows resiliency, focus and a strong work ethic. I understand the value of a positive team dynamic and want to lead and be a part of that winning culture. I will maintain a coachable attitude and encourage my fellow teammates. In the gym I will work hard to get stronger. I will continue to build on my hitting, fielding and be an asset to the infield/outfield as well as the catching position. Most importantly, I will be mindful of my actions and conduct myself in a professional manner. I will display school spirit, carry myself respectfully and uplift the hard work of my coaches, teammates and school.
