Personal Statement

Hi, I'm Morgan.

If you're reading this, thank you for looking at me, even if it's just my profile.

Softball is my life, it has made me the person I am today. I'm not just saying that either. In probably 5th or 6th grade I was severely over weight. I was almost 200lbs and 5'4" (I'm still 5'4"). That summer I played softball again for the 1st time in 2 years in an effort to get in shape. I fell in love with the sport. I was actually good at something, hitting. The confidence softball gave me that year pushed me to become healthy.

I stopped drinking soda, eating chips, and ice cream since that year. I'm constantly trying to better myself as an athlete. I'm currently doing the P90X work out program. I bench press more than any girl (and quite a few boys) in my school, my max being 125lbs. I'm a strong person. I'm trying to better my endurance and speed now through interval training. Most people say I'm in good shape but, I'm no where near where I want to be. And if you don't think I'll get there, I can tell you one thing is for sure. I will. My friends and family will tell you the same thing.

But you probably don't care about that stuff, only my career in softball.

8th Grade: I started playing school ball with the Kindred-Richland Fastpitch team. I played 3rd base for the first time and after a few short practice the head coach pulled me aside and said I was good there. "Strong arm, good field, you're good for that hot spot," Mike's not one to give out complaments. (I will get his contact information on the site at some point, I just want to make sure it's okay with him).  With that I never wanted to stop playing there. I didn't get as much playing time as I would have liked on the varsity team that year. I was to young and when I made a mistake I would let it get to me. That's not a problem anymore. I did do a lot of pinch running though. I even got in the paper for it at state. They got my name wrong, even though it was clearly me.

8th Grade summer:That summer I played for both the 18u Kindred Summer Ball team and the Colfax Classics 14u team. The Colfax team was the first team I had ever played on, I grew up with those girls, and the coach, Cody was a huge influence in my love for the sport. So playing with them was great, though I was a lot better than most the girls, so it was frustrating when they made mistakes. I got to play alot more than I did during the school year, I became a leader on the team which I had never been (I enjoyed it thoroughly and I think I did quite well), I also got to try pitching and decided it wasn't for me.

The 18u team was one of the same coaches as the school ball team for Kindred and  a new coach who would later become an assitant coach on the varsity team. Playing with the same girls I played with all school year helped me find my place with the girls and better our team for the upcoming year. One of the best things about it was the fact that a new coach was going to be the head coach. It was a clean slate, she didn't know me or anyone else. I got my first big chance. I played and started almost everygame. I got a lot better at hitting (which had been a struggle since switching form slow to fastpitch), I made all 3 outs in a lot of games, my confidence went through the rough, I didn't let mistakes bother me as much. Then we went to state and I sat on the bench the entire time because a girl who had been injuried all year, school and summer ball, got cleared. She's a good player and I was fine with it. It makes me more angry now than it did than.

Freshman School Ball:That school year in PE I threw out my shoulder, a month and a half before the school ball season started. I did it four more time through out the season, causing me to sit a lot of games. I was very upset, and struggled through the year, not going to lie. We determined that the way I threw was the reason I kept injurying my shoulder. We corrected my throw and I haven't had a problem since, but by that time it was hard to get a starting spot on the team, but I did develope my hitting a lot during that time. I didn't strike out the entire school ball season. I did learn how to become a supportive teamate and I take pride in that. Softball is a team sport and your abiltiy to be a team player is of a very high importance in my opinon anyway. I do admit that when my team won 1st at state I felt like a failure, I didn't feel like I deserved any credit.

At our softball banquet my coaches made me feel otherwise. They said something about each of us. They said, "Morgan Adams, well, she never complains, she's a real team player, and we look forward to what she'll do in the next years."

Freshman Summer Ball: This last summer the Colfax team was disbanded and I only played for the Kindred 18u team. Mike, Sam, and Cory all coached just like the school year. We had alot of girls join us for the summer, so the coaches tried for equal playing time. Nothing really good happened in the summer. I was sick and tried of being put aside so the other girls who complained got time while I sat on the bench not complaining. I struck out for the first time and I cried. Cory sat me down and asked what was wrong. I told him that was the first time I'd struck out all year, thinking he hadn't noticed. THinking that was why I wasn't getting as much playing time as I felt I deserved. Cory looked me in the eye and said, "I know." That honestly made me more mad, but I didn't say anything. Instead I showed my angry and sadness on the field until the last few games. Cory took it up with me one day in the batting cages, asking where the confident batter he knew was. I didn't answer because I didn't want to yell at him. Instead I just went back to batting and decided I was going to be that person again.

State was the next weekend, I was expecting playing time over the girls that weren't on our school ball team. I didn't play until the last game. I was determinmed to show them why they didn't win the 2 previous team (I wasn't playing). I believe I did. I hit better than anyone. I bunted a perfect bunt and got on. I stole 2nd, 3rd, and home (Home was on an error) all in one batting. That was the last game of the season and I was happy with it.

Sophmore Year:I played 2 fall ball games with a fall ball league. The just comply a bunch of girls at random. I don't even remember the coaches' names, but I do know that the coaches were very impressed with me. They liked how I would play anywhere they wanted. I got to try 2nd base. Loved it, it kept my mind stimulated at all times. I was a leader again, because we needed one. I found it easy to meet the other girls and get along with them during games.

I'm playing this winter, I'll get video and have individual 1 hour sessions with coaches. So I hope to continue to improve.

I told you about everything I thought was important, including the bad, it's only fair. I love softball, I'm dedicated, I'm smart, and I would do anything for this sport. Honestly, everything I do is for my softball career in the long run.

My grades are extremely good, I'm top of my class. I'm in speech, FFA, and FCCLA. I hold and office in FCCLA. The school staff love me, I'm not trying to be concieted, but they tell me and my mother (who works at the school) all the time. My previous PE teacher told my mother I'm one of the hardest workers he's ever met. He coached the number one Class B running back in the nation and he puts me right up there with that same kid. I'm very proud of that. (I can get you in contact with any of my teachers)

I'm interested in being a chiropractor, in a interior design, or a pshycologist. I'm not sure though, so I'm keeping an open mind.

Thank you for reading this,

Morgan J. Adams
