I’m going to do my best and give a brief insight of who I am, and what I stand for in the limited amount of time that is allowed. My name is Sunetrius Antoinnique Armstrong but everyone calls me “Sunshine.” My peers say my nickname fits me perfectly, because I am actually a very quiet person that doesn’t say much but everyone says I have a very strong, bright personality that speaks loudly. My travel coach Mark also calls me S.S.A. for “Sunshine the Silent Assassin” because of my strong bat. Various softball parents have a tendency to call me ESPN and clutch because of the way I go after balls in the outfield. I began playing baseball when I was 4 years old, with my older brothers’ team whom all were 7-8 years old at the time. I knew right then and there I LOVE THIS GAME. I have learned so many different things while being on this journey, some of these are playing on a team considered as the “underdogs” to playing on a team which was expected to win every game. It’s always a good feeling to be a winner, but the sense of achievement can sometimes be even better. While the best feeling of accomplishment is stepping up to the plate and proving non-believers wrong. in college. This decision was not easy. It took me approximately six months, because I was leaving a
This year, fall 2017, I transferred from my home school to a high school that offers one of the top high school nursing programs in the state. This program will allow me to take various courses my junior and senior year of high school that will help prepare me for nursing in college. Although, I have to miss the first 13 softball games of my junior year in high school, this sacrifice could allow me to play all four years school where I was very successful, on pace to break several hitting records and one of the team leaders. Instead, I would be going to a more competitive team along with starting this new nursing program and I literally knew 2 people in the entire high school. This has taught me a lot about decision making, looking forward to the future, sacrifice, leaving friends/teammates under good circumstances, and building new relationships.
Often times I have been overlooked because I’m not loud or boastful, BUT I get the job done. When I hear my coach call out SSA, it makes me smile. I just go along in a business-like manner. It always amazes individuals who know the game, because they’re the ones who really appreciate my play. I am confident that I can be that game changer in your program and look forward to meeting with you.
