Maddison Mushill '17 Recruiting Profile

Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of playing college softball.  I can remember sitting in front of the TV watching college softball with my brother and leaning over and telling him, “That’s going to be me someday.” 

When I first began playing, I excelled at first base.  Every time someone asked me what position I play, that was my first and only response.  Then, my first year of travel softball, my coach had me catch.  I quickly realized I could do that too.  A few years later, my junior high school ball coach put me at 3rd base.  So, when someone asks me which position I love the most, my answer is all of them.  This is because no matter where I play, I get to do what I love.  There’s nothing I love more than feeling the dirt beneath my cleats and the bat hit the ball. 

I’ve learned a lot from the game of softball.  I’ve learned it’s not all about the winning or the home runs, it’s about being a team and getting through the rough patches.  You have to be strong, coachable, and hard working.  I think this is what separates me from others.  No matter what happens the night before, all I want to do is get out on the field and show what I and my team can do.  I have an in depth knowledge of the game and always play not only with my head, but with my heart.  I will never give anything less than 100 percent because that was what I was raised to do.  It doesn’t matter who you play, where you play, or how you play, all that matters is that you give it your all, and that is how I live my life.
