Personal Statement
When I was younger, I was a soccer player. I was about eight years old when I decided to start playing softball. I played for a recreational league in my neighborhood. I was a standout player and decided to go to tournament softball the following year. After I started playing tournament ball, my love for the game deepened. I have been hooked on softball ever sense. I was playing tournament soccer and softball at the same time, but unfortunately, circumstances forced me to pick one sport to pursue further. I obviously picked softball. My love of sports kept pushing me toward playing another sport though. I discovered field hockey and found this sport helps me condition for softball, so I have been playing both sports now for club and school teams.
Being on a sports team has taught me to think about more than myself. It has influenced me to care about my teammates' development as well as myself. It has also taught me the importance of supporting my teammates on and off the field. Playing softball has definitely taught me to be selfless. Also, I found out through softball that I am stronger mentally and physically then I thought.
I plan to pursue a career in the medical field. I learned about perseverance through my schooling. In 3rd grade, I was diagnosed with a learning disability. I have fought and worked hard to be successful. I have learned to never give up. I fight to get to the next level. I fight academically as well as physically. Determination is my best characteristic, and I hope to use this determination to earn a bachelor's degree in biology.
