Personal Statement

Hello.

My name is Mia Saenz, and I am a junior in high school. My love for softball started when my older brother played select baseball, and I spent all my time at the baseball field when I was young.  I started playing softball at three when my local organization didn't have enough players to make a full tee ball team, and they allowed me to play with older girls. When I was a few years older I was watching the softball college world series and I decided I wanted to be a pitcher. I was determined to pitch, so I looked up some youtube videos and taught myself the basics of softball pitching, and it was then I knew I wanted to be a pitcher and play softball in college.

My positions since I was little have mainly been pitcher and short stop but I am also a utility player, and even played catcher when my team was short one at times. That was a big moment because it told me my coaches had trust in me to play a position I didn't have training in. I try my best to be a team leader, lead by example, and to be a team player. I try to have a positive impact on my teammates. I do my best to be a hardworking player and teammate and give 100% on and off the field.

I put the time in on and off season to better my skills by doing lessons and camps and conditioning in school during athletics as well as on my select/travel softball team. I was awarded 1st team All-District my sophomore year, and I received the Express-News Game Ball for going 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBIs for a win that helped seal our first playoff berth in my schools history. What an exciting night that was for my teammates and I! I have a great softball IQ, and I am always working to get better at my skills. I have always been taught "there's always room for improvement".

I want to go to college to pursue career that will make a difference in peoples lives. I want to continue to push myself on and off the softball field, to do what makes me happy, makes my family proud and makes my future something to look forward to.
