My name is Jane Loo and I am a junior at Saratoga High School in Saratoga California. While I am undecided in my major, I hope to be able to attend a great college where I can push myself academically while playing basketball in order to have a balance between academics and athletics.
I started playing basketball since I was 8 years old and after my first practice, I was always playing the sport whether it was by myself, with my brother, or with the boys at school. What I quickly picked up after starting basketball was that there is always something to improve on. I believe that by always having the desire to win every practice competition, scrimmage, and game, I can not only get myself better but my teammates better as well. I am fortunate to have been a starter on the varsity high school team since my freshman year. I was voted MVP of the league (el camino) and led my team in scoring and assists in both my freshman and sophomore years. During my sophomore year, a calf injury restricted me to only playing 10 games; however, I was able to come back in time for the CCS, and was able to lead my team to reach the semi-finals.
From my injury, I learned that I had to work even harder than I normally did because I would have to get my speed, strength, and skill back up and make up the time I lost sitting out while others were getting better. Basketball has also helped me improve as a person. I am able to manage my academics by being more organized about my schedule and I have become a much more time-efficient person. On the court, playing basketball takes my mind off the stress in school and overall, playing the game makes me a happier and more responsible person. I simply enjoy playing the game, going to lifting, watching film, and trying to get better everyday. I love being a student-athlete and I hope to extend this into my college life.
