I started playing basketball in 2nd grade and I immediately fell in love with the sport. I played throughout middle school and then stopped in high school due to an injury. As soon as junior year came around and I got cleared to play sports again, I was back on the court putting in work and motivated more than ever to play this sport in my future. I have juggled many different sports throughout my grade school years but basketball is the one that has taught me some of the most important life skills and lessons. Basketball has taught me to be persistent, never give up on something I want to accomplish. It has taught me leadership, as captain of my school team, I learned that being a leader doesn’t always mean you have to be the best, as long as you are doing your best and helping others do their best. I have learned to be more confident in myself and in my teammates and coaches, trusting in each other to have your back is key.
Throughout the 8 years I have played basketball, I have learned from coaches, teammates, and even opponents to develop the skills and knowledge I have today. My height gives me an advantage of being big on defense and being able to box out for rebounds. I’m a strong defensive player and an asset to the board on offense.
My coaches can attest that I am a determined and committed player and I put my all into what I want to accomplish. In the classroom, my teachers would say that I am a hardworking student and a leader. I am also highly self motivated and will push myself towards bigger goals. I work hard year around, playing for my auu swarm team in the spring, and working out at the gym as well as playing pickup games at the courts everyday. Being able to workout and play ball everyday no matter if I’m by myself or with a team is helping me better my own skills so I can become a better athlete.
My dream to play in college is just a year away and I am determined to find a school that I will love both academically and athletically. Finding a school that is the right fit and pushes me to become a better student athlete is extremely important to me. Whichever school my future holds for me, I am excited to take the next step in my athletic career and accomplish one of my biggest dreams.
