Sumayah Lewis-McIntosh '25 Recruiting Profile

My name is Sumayah and I am a 15 year old student athlete. My goal is to one day play in the WNBA or to become an anesthesiologist. I am very passionate about both my academics and basketball. In school, I strive to do my best at all times. I work hard to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. I am currently a student at Lakewood High School, after recently having transitioned to Lakewood from Admiral Farragut Academy. For me, my education is key to my success, regardless of which career path I take.

I have been playing basketball since I was 4 years old and absolutely love everything about it. My strength has always been being a defensive player. In August of 2020, during an AAU game, I tore my ACL, MCL, and meniscus. I had to undergo surgery and 9 months of physical therapy. During that time, I realized that there are things in life that are beyond my control. This was a very difficult time for me because I have always been an athlete, and I found myself questioning who I am without sports. With the help of my mom and grandma, I was able to get over the feeling of depression and self-doubt and focus on my recovery. After fully committing myself to physical therapy, I was able to step back on the court in July of 2021, and play in 3 tournaments with my AAU team.

I entered my freshman year in August of 2021, and am now back to playing basketball. I am a starter for my high school varsity team as a stretch 4. In addition to High School and AAU ball, I also do track & field, and volleyball. Regardless of what sport I am playing, I always want to give 120%. I have been told that I am coachable, versatile, and a leader. I believe these are all skills that will help me exceed in life, wherever it should take me.
