Personal Statement

My name is Tess Godhardt. I'm 5'11, 155 lbs, and my sport is basketball. It's crazy to think that I've been playing basketball for 11 years. I started when I was 5 and just couldn't get enough of it. Basketball is the one thing I'm completely and painstakingly devoted to and I have a feeling I always will be. Starting highschool my goal was to make the varsity basketball team. I succeeded in doing so and although it wasn't my best season. I was the go-to bench person. My coaches often mentioned me during practice as being one the fastest girls on the team. I worked hard in practices to gain some recognition from the coaches and it eventually paid off. When a starter was having an off night or someone got hurt, I was the one the coaches looked to take their place. That year we made it to the Sectional Championships but suffered a heartbreaking buzzer beater loss. I came back my sophomore year more determined than ever to get past the Sectional Championships and also to become a part of the starting lineup. I wasn't a starter right away but about half way through the season, a starter suffered a shoulder injury and had to sit out for a couple of weeks. During this time I became a starter and proved to my coaches that I can handle whatever position they put me in. (For the record I am a post player but I have a great ability to drive the ball so I am often times put outside as a perimeter player.) When my teammate was finally recovered, my coaches still kept me as a starter and I'm proud to say I remained a starter all the way through our State run. That State run ended with us, the Hinckley Big Rock Royals, becoming the Class 1A State Champs. For the two times we played down state, I was recognized both games as being the "Player of the Game". At the end of the season I was awarded the highest field goal percentage award (62.6%). I was also mentioned as "1st Team Small Schools" and "All State Honorable Mention". As for my junior year, I have so far started every game and I've managed to post double-digit scores for a high percentage of those games. Also, I've recently scored my 1000th point in my highschool career, the 10th member in my school's history to do so. This is by far my favorite accomplishment seeing as I didn't really get much playing time as a freshman. Other accomplishments that I achieved during my junior year were Fourth Team All-State, and again 1st Team Small Schools and Associated Press. Ever since I started my career in school basketball, I've had it in my mind that college basketball was for me. I have the drive and most abundantly, the passion. Basketball was my first love. Recently I've discovered that another passion of mine is creative writing. That will be my intended major and hopefully this writing section doesn't put that to shame. As for location of the colleges I wish to attend, I haven't quite nailed down that aspect. I'm open to any location at the moment though schools located near or around larger cities seem to interest me the most. I've always been in love with big cities and to live there, I feel, would be a great experience. As for what type of school I wish to attend, I am completely open with my choices. I am mainly looking for schools that can tend to my creative writing skills. I must warn you though, I am a Packer fan so any Wisconsin school will have my vote.
