Personal Statement
I have two brothers and an older sister, who I have enjoyed competing with and working together with to achieve mutual goals. I also am protective of my siblings and have learned a lot about embracing the positives of very different personalities. My parents started from humble beginnings, but have achieved career success. They have taught me a lot about hard work, perseverance, setting goals, and not settling for excuses.
In addition to AAU basketball, I have played in travel level softball as a catcher. Being a catcher taught me to endure physical pain, help relieve the stress of the pitcher/teammates, see the entire field of play, and be aware of everyone's responsibilities. This his helped me in my play at guard in basketball, directing traffic/teammates on the court, and be a leader. I love playing basketball and competing in everything I do. I push myself in practice and workouts to be the best, and I encourage my teammates to do the same. I believe competition makes everyone better and doing what is best for the team comes first. We can only control our own actions and the best way to overcome obstacles is to make ourselves better.
While I love to score, I am a tenacious defender and I take a lot of pride in blocking shots, shutting down the other team's best scorer and getting turnovers. On my team you didn't get playing time unless you played defense and boxed out, which has made me a well rounded player. I am consistently near the top of the team in leg press, squats, three pointers made, three point percentage, steals, points, rebounds and love to tip-in shots for points.
I play mostly the 2 and 1, but when my team needs help in the post, I have played the 3/4/5. I take pride in mixing it up with post players in the paint. I feel that I have great court vision and can hit the open teammate through traffic in transition or draw the defense and kick to the open player. Getting everyone involved on offense brings up everyone's individual intensity on both ends of the court. I take pride in getting my teammates good looks to the basket.
My ultimate goal is to get an education for a career I will enjoy and have a strong bond with my fellow student athlete teammates while in school.
I will not be outworked or out hustled. At key points of the game I want the ball in my hands to help my team make plays and will shut down the opponent's best threat.
