Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Gracie Allstott, I am a 5’8” Junior shooting guard from Springs Valley High School.  In the off season I play travel basketball for Southern Indiana Gold and in the Evansville Pocket City League.  My love for the game of basketball honestly happened from the moment I was born, and I can say that because my mom’s contractions with me started while she was in the middle of basketball practice coaching!  I grew up hearing the basketball stories from my grandfather, John Carnes, who played with Larry Bird for Springs Valley in 1974, and who went on to play college basketball for Northwood College.  My mom, Tara (Carnes) Allstott also played for Springs Valley, and was a 4-year scholarship player, 2 years for Vincennes University and another 2 years for Indiana University South-East.  While in high school my mom recorded the school’s best 3-point records for a game, season, and career.  I have been training one on one with mom since I was in 5th grade.  We spend hours together in the gym on Sunday evenings working on my footwork and shooting.  We also condition and work on the basketball drills she learned in college.  My basketball aspirations are to break all my mom’s records, win a Sectional for my school, and then play college basketball while perusing my Radiology degree.  To say I’ve been raised in a gym is an understatement.  If I wasn’t in a gym watching my mom coach basketball, I was in a gym practicing basketball.  It’s what I love to do, and I was born for this.  My hope is to find a basketball home after my graduation from Springs Valley High School in 2024 that matches my academic, athletic, and religious needs.

  • 2022 Southern Indiana Gold (SIG) (Varsity)
  • Gracie has started 2 seasons for her Southern Indiana Gold (SIG) travel team. These past 2 seasons she has really excelled under her travel coach and Shoals HS coach Kyle Turpin. Gracie has been a dedicated player for SIG for 2 years, attending practices on the road twice a week, and playing 2-3 tourneys a month in the Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio areas. This summer Gracie stepped up her game and was able to take lead of the main offense for SIG. If opposing teams were in man to man, a majority of the time their best was matched up against Gracie, and vice versa on defense. Her team played extremely well together, and because of it and Gracie's over-all play she has been selected again to the Indiana Elite North/South travel ball games coming up in March 2023.

  • 7 years
  • Gracie has attended Harry Meeks' individual basketball camp every year (except Covid) since she was in 3rd grade. Gracie's mother, Tara, has been a coach for Harry's camp ever since she played for him at Vincennes University during the 99-00 and 00-01 seasons. The past 3 years Gracie has also attended the VU team camp as well.
  • Springs Valley Speed and Performance Club
  • 1 year
  • I, Gracie's father, co-headed up a Springs Valley Speed and Performance Club. The head coach who helped me run the club transferred schools after our 1st year, so we unfortunately couldn't continue it, but Gracie did participate and did excel in the speed, conditioning, strength training, explosiveness, and the plyometrics we taught in our 10 week club. Although this club is no longer in existence, those fundamentals are still taught in our home and when we train on our own.
  • Private lessons
  • 10 years
  • Gracie has been training with her mother ever since she could pick up a basketball. From Gracie's 5th grade season on she has spent countless one on one hours on Sunday evenings in the high school gym with her. Together they have worked on all of the ball handling, shooting, and defensive drills her mother was taught during her playing time in college. Most of the time they were able to get in the late afternoon, but on occasions they've started as late as 9pm. Either way they have always dedicated their Sunday evenings to extra work and conditioning to help prepare Gracie for the next level.
