End of junior year 2015, Destiny was named FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR in Washington County, Delta Democrate Times MVP, 1st Team all State, 1st Team all District, and she made the Mississippi ALL-STAR TEAM. She was MS 6A top scorer, and #1 Free- Throw Attempts and Free- Throw Percentage (All Classes), #2 in Assist (All Classes), and #2 in steals (All Classes). Two years ago(2012), Destiny Hemphill was the 1st 8th grader to start for Greenville Weston High, a 6A public school, male or female, and for the 1st time in school history they went undefeated in district play and won the district championship. In middle school 6th and 7th grade she had both undefeated seasons where she averaged over 40pts p/g. She was told by sports editor Steven Robinson that she could be recruited by schools like TENN..... and UCONN. Her middle school coach said "she is the best basketball player in the country in the c/o 2016, maybe the top point gaurd in the country today". In summerleauge (2012) she averaged 32pts p/g (high school varsity). In middle school her 6th grade year she scored 22pts in the 1st 3minutes of the game, the opposing coach called time out, asked to verify her age and said if she continued to play she would pack up her girls and leave. Last season as a 8th grade starter, Greenville won 22 games (only 5 the previous season). This is the same school Latoya Thomas attended, who went to MSU & was the 1st pick in the WNBA draft. AAU JUNE-JULY '12: A brilliant offensive performance. She continues to grow mentally, finding way to use her star power to get teammates easy looks. We often focus on her offense because of her range, quick trigger & ability to score off the dribble, but she is also a quality defender. She showed instincts in the passing lanes that provided a catalyst to many a transition bucket. Check out her videos on YOUTUBE.
