Personal Statement

I want to begin by thanking you for looking at my profile. I know your time is valuable so I will give you a straight forward account of who I am and what I could offer your basketball team.

Leadership

I am a four-year starter for my high school varsity basketball team, and have been captain three of those years.  In addition to being a leader on my team, I have also had many leadership roles within my school. These include being a member of Peerleaders, Student Council, Class Representative, and Class President. I enjoy taking the initiative to get something done.  Recently, I started my own basketball team when my off- season coach took time off for personal reasons and the team dissolved. I knew that in order to get better we needed to continue playing. With that in mind, I organized a team, found a league as well as a coach, and handled all of the fees and registration for the team.

Academics

Academics has always been one of my highest priorities and I have always done whatever is necessary to maintain good grades.  Playing basketball year-round doesn't leave much time for studying.  However, I understand the importance of school, and often stay up well past midnight after games working on homework and studying for tests to maintain a 4.08 GPA.

Resilience

The summer before my Junior year I suffered an ACL injury at a team basketball camp.  My younger sister suffered the same injury two days later!  Needless to say, it was a challenge for our entire family as she and I underwent surgery on the same day, and then spent the next five months recovering together in physical therapy. The possibility that I would not be medically cleared to play basketball my Junior season was not acceptable to me.  After five and a half months rehabilitation, I was released to play sports again.  My doctor said it was the fastest recovery of any patient he had seen for that injury. Unfortunately, I missed a third of the season.  But I worked hard each day in practice with the goal of getting back to being the player I had been before.

Accomplishments

I was honored to receive the Defensive MVP award as a Freshman and Sophomore as well as the Overall MVP as a Junior. My Sophomore year I received All Conference Honorable Mention and held the highest rebounding and field goal percentages on my team. I was named on Southwest Missouri's "Future 50" by the publication SWMO Baskeball, All Conference, and All District my Junior year. In addition to this, I have reached 500 career points and 500 career rebounds.  I have a career average double double in these two categories.  I have three games of 20 or more rebounds.

Work Ethic/ Attitude

I enjoy a challenge. My goal each day is to go to bed better than when I woke that morning. I am never satisfied with my current skill level and always strive to be better. I love to learn new things and am very coachable. I hold high expectations for myself and love a coach who does the same for me. I am constantly setting goals and pushing myself to achieve them. When one goal is met, another takes it's place.
