Personal Statement
I've played sports my whole life. My mother has a picture of me with a basketball in my hands around 2 years old. My life changed when I was 7 years old due to an accident. I fell off of one of our horses and broke my right arm. It was almost a compound fracture and after surgery my arm and hand continued to swell. The swelling started to cut off the circulation to my hand. My surgeon had to perform another surgery where they cut my arm to the bone to relieve the swelling. I was in MU children's hospital for 8 days and had to leave with a wound vac for a couple of weeks until my body grew enough skin to cover the wound. It was a set back for me at that age. I wasn't able to use my right hand for quite a long time. I'm right handed. I missed playing basketball and softball. I worked really hard to get my arm back to normal. It hurt really bad for awhile and I had a few more surgeries to help the appearance of my scar. Now days, people don't even notice my scar unless they look really closely at my arm. I'm really happy that I've been able to still live out my dreams playing sports. I'm a 3 sport athlete at my school. I run cross country and track, and I play basketball. I've been lucky enough to be all state in track my freshman (3rd 4x100 relay and 9th 800 meter run) , sophomore (2nd 300 meter hurdles), and Junior (7th 100 meter hurdles and 11th 4x100 relay) years. I have only been able to compete in cross country my sophomore year, as I sprained my ankle my freshman year & junior year during or right before the cross country season. I was still able to attain all state status my sophomore year receiving 22nd place. Basketball is my love. I believe my defensive game is my best area and I'm proud of my accomplishments in my high school career. I've received All Conference, All District, and All Media Sportswriters and Sportscasters’ all-Central District basketball team awards all 3 years of high school. I broke my 1,000 points in a game this year (junior year) and became South Callaway's all time leading scorer. I look forward to increasing that this year. I'm working on every aspect of my game and trying to improve everyday. The thing that sets me apart from other players is that I work harder than anyone else. There are days I go from strength and conditioning, to track and then to basketball practice. I maintain good grades. I give all I can give everyday. I will work just as hard in college for my goals.
