Hello, my name is Megan Lindzy. I realized in second grade when my parents signed me up for a basketball program, that I had more abilities than the other kids my age. As a few years went by and clearly seeing I was more advanced than everyone else, I decided to take my shot to the three point range. I was told that I was a greater shooter, but not great enough for the three pointers. I decided to try it and it was like I had done it all along. It came naturally and easy just like all other things. From then on I knew I had a gift of not only being great at certain aspects of the game, but I knew that three point shooting would be my specialty. From this point on, I continued to play throughout grade school and was even sought out to play on select basketball teams.
During my grade school and younger years of playing basketball, I've had to overcome many obstacles. One being growing at a faster rate than most kids my age. Dealing with the injuries that came with growing so fast and letting those injuries heal, it allowed me to understand why it took so long to return to the game. The second obstacle I had to overcome was keeping my grades on an A average while playing basketball. I believe in education first and strive to maintain high honors in my academic studies and sports. The third and hardest obstacle to get over was realizing that I was bound to have bad games occasionally and mentally overcoming that aspect was difficult at times.
Outside of sports, I am looking for a college that has the best academic program for me. Through my years of grade school, I have always made the honor roll and was always in advanced classes. During my eighth grade year, my teachers encouraged me to submit an essay in regards to the stock market. Since this essay competition was nationwide, I figured I would have no chance at winning, but submitted it anyway. After a few months, I was called into the school office and my teacher explained that I had won first place in the state for my essay and that it would be submitted to the national competition. Although I never heard if my essay ranked nationally, it was a great experience. My education is most important to me as I realize that basketball may not be permanent.
