While I never have been a great athlete, I enjoyed a fair amount of success as a high school athlete, mostly because I was passionate about not only the game but the concept of team play. I will likely be the starting small forward for Oakland - Craig Knights this coming season. However, the honor of starting for the basketball team isn't as nearly important to me as it once was. More than the accolades of personal recognition, I now appreciate what basketball has taught me about myself. I have learned that i love competitive environments, even in ones where I'm not as gifted or talented as my teammates and competitors. My basketball experience has taught me to enjoy preparation, work ethics as a team towards a common goal, and even when there is a little personal reward or recognition to be found. I have learned to remain persistent-amid disappointments. These are lessons that I intend to apply in life. Most of all, my success will be my bachelor degree in education no matter what happens on the court.
