Personal Statement
I'm so fortunate to be a member of the Trenton Catholic Academy (TCA) Lady Mikes Varsity Basketball team. TCA is one of the best girls HS basketball programs in NJ. What makes us great is much more than wins and titles. We care about each other, work hard every day on the court and in class and play the right way. No one cares about stats. We're all about team goals.
TCA demands that you relentlessly pursue the best version of yourself, on and off the court. As a result, I am ranked first academically in the TCA Class of 2020. And I am now a much smarter, stronger, faster, tougher and better basketball player. Going hard in practice against nine outstanding players (at least four will play Division I) has made that happen.
About a year ago, I had no idea I would be at TCA. That's when everything changed at my hometown HS, Robbinsville. After the 2017-18 season, both coaches left. Only me and two other players in the program (Grades 9-12) were planning to return. Then a new coach was hired - but backed out. Our AD then said he wasn't sure if we would have a basketball team next year.
I was worried. I was proud to be a RHS Raven. I followed my oldest brother and sister (I'm one of five kids) to RHS. I was a Varsity starter in soccer and basketball. I was going to be a basketball captain this year. I wanted to help lead us to the first league title in school history. But with no team, none of that would happen. I love basketball too much to miss a season.
Thanks to my parents, I was fortunate to be in a position to look at other schools. After a careful search, the choice became clear. My new school would be Trenton Catholic Academy. I was sad to leave RHS. I still miss being around my lifelong friends every day at RHS. But I've been so blessed to join a special new family at TCA. It's an honor to be a Lady Mike!
