My name is Ella Gershon, I live in NYC and I go to The Chapin School. I love playing basketball, watching basketball and talking basketball. I have been on the Varsity team since my Freshman year and was voted AAIS League All Star my Sophomore year. I have also played on various AAU teams since 4th grade and currently play with the Eastside Escalades. My goal for the future is to get a good education while also being able to compete at the highest level I possibly can. Since I began playing basketball, I love the aspect of it being a team sport. As a player, I always put the team's needs and interests before my own even if that means competing through pain or illness. Athletically, because I am a guard and only 5’7’, I rely on my instincts and knowledge of the game as much as my physical attributes. On the court, what sets me apart from most fellow athletes is how much I care and my competitive drive. An example of this is, year after year our school team gets beat by the league champion. After last year's defeat in the playoffs, I was devastated even though I tried as much as I could and gave it my all from the first second to the last. However, each year we get closer to beating them and it gives me huge motivation to be better as a player. Not only do I have the drive for success with my team, but also as an individual as I strive to be a 1,000 point scorer in my High School career. As both a student and a player I set high goals for myself so I can be the best I can as a player and a student. Academically, I go to a competitive school and maintain good grades as well as maintain good, strong relationships with my teachers, coaches, teammates, and friends. I strive to continue to grow as a student both on the court and in the classroom. Looking toward my future in college, I want to continue to be surrounded by people who will help me thrive both on and off the court.
