Personal Statement
I attended Canton McKinley High School my freshman and sophomore years and was on the varsity team and lettered both years. As junior, I transferred to Chippewa High School where I am currently a member of the varsity team.
Academically, I take my education very seriously. Throughout my high school career I have taken honors and advanced classes to prepare myself for college. I currently have a GPA of 4.0 and a 19 on the ACT. I have only taken the ACT one time, but I am scheduled to take it again and hopefully improve my score. I plan to continue this same path of educational success as I prepare for my future at the next level.
Athletically, I am a gym rat. I love the game of basketball and being out on the court. I have spent countless hours on the court trying to make myself the best player I can be since I was in 5th grade. I have dreams and goals of attending college on a basketball scholarship or a combination of an academic and athletic scholarship. That has been my goal since I was in elementary school. Playing basketball on the varsity team as a freshman and sophomore I felt confident that my dreams of gaining a scholarship would become a reality. As I prepared to go into my junior year at Chippewa High School, I had earned the position as a starting point guard for a very good team. The Lady Chipps made it to the State Tournament last season. However, in a flash, my hopes and dreams were crushed as I suffered an injury while playing at Ohio State with my high school team. I underwent surgery for a torn ACL. After I came to grips with the reality of this injury, I was more determined than ever to return to the court and be stronger than I was before. This setback in my career made me a stronger person and I have been more dedicated and determined to return to the game I love. I was willing to do whatever it took to not miss my entire junior year. I was cleared to return to play in my first game just 5 months after my surgery. I was able to contribute to the success of my team in the post season. We won the WCAL, District Champs, and were the Regional Runner-Up. I am continuing to work on my strength and conditioning to return for my senior year stronger than before. Although I suffered an injury, I am not going to settle for anything less than my very best. I am still setting my goals high and plan to become a successful collegiate basketball player in the near future. My season high this year was 14 points and 5 rebounds at Chippewa. As a sophomore, my high game was 17 points and 7 rebounds at McKinley. I am a versatile player, at 5’10” I have played every position from post to point guard at the varsity level. I like to play aggressive defense, pass, shoot, run the floor, and drive.
I realize that my junior year was a big year and I missed out on most of it, but I am not giving up on my dream. I am looking forward to my senior year in high school and then continuing my basketball career for another 4 years at the college level. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time.
